D.T. “Rusty” Russell retired from the Saint Lucie County Sheriff’s Office in 2009 with a total twenty-three years of service, fourteen of which were as a Detective assigned to Criminal Investigations. During his career, Detective Russell specialized in agriculture, passenger vehicles, commercial vehicles, construction equipment, and farm equipment. He held certifications for vehicle theft, arson, and environmental investigations to name a few. During his career he received numerous awards, both internally and externally, and his work was highlighted in commercial publications.
Detective Russell retired from the Sheriff’s Office in 2009 to take the role of Director of Vehicle Investigations with the National Insurance Crime Bureau (NICB) in Des Plaines, Illinois. As the nationwide program director for NICB Director Russell oversaw all aspects of vehicle theft and was responsible for the development of cutting-edge solutions to address vehicle crimes.
