Inspector Gadget: Choosing the Right Tools for the Job

When conducting vehicle identifications, or inspections you will find yourself needing tools. Choosing the right tools can make all the difference. Do you know which OBD reader works best for vehicle identification? What tools are required to access secondary vehicle identification numbers or component serial numbers? What special tools do you need if the vehicle has been destroyed by fire or severe crash damage? Do your current tool(s) have inter-operability with the other investigators in your unit, agency, or taskforce? We will look at the entire scope of equipment from what is necessary to what is nice to have. We will review the advantages/disadvantages of various tools, and discuss complexities associated with their functionality. We will also review safety equipment and the importance of employing safe practices. This course is designed to equip your investigators with tools necessary to conduct effective vehicle identifications or inspections while maximizing the agency’s investment.
