Those who have never performed vehicle identifications may opine as to the lack of skill required; however, they have never had to identify a total burn at a homicide scene when the only lead was the identification of the vehicle. This course will cover basic (passenger) vehicle nomenclature, vehicle identification number structure, the National Crime Information Center (NCIC) Vehicle File, and external support resources available. We will review secondary means of identification and discuss the necessity to properly document efforts and results without jeopardizing existing case laws. Whether you have no experience in vehicle identification or basic knowledge, this block of instruction can be customized to your specific needs.
